And now, the end is near…

I won’t complete the song lest I be shot. In the Philippines, singing My Way at the local karaoke joint might get you killed. That’s how passionate Filipinos are with their singing. They have to sing it Their Way. Heh.
This isn’t a blog about the song though, it’s about something I have read. Get this, the CERN is going to fire up theĀ “most powerful atom-smasher ever built“. Say what? You’d think that it’s something taken out of a scifi novel, but it’s not. This is real news folks! The kind of news that make you cringe like this.
So what the hey is this? Don’t ask me, I’m just a regular Juan whose only knowledge of physics is gravity. This powerful atom-smasher ever built is worth a cool $5.8B, and it’s called – unromantically – the LHC. LHC stands for the Large Hadron Collider. Romantically, it’s called the doomsday collider. For fans and players of the Warcraft, it could be a transliteration of the Lich King.
If the machine goes awry, we will have created our own black hole, thereby sucking the Earth into a netherless void. Wow, that sounds cool doesn’t it? I didn’t think I’d have the chance to say such beautiful prose.
If not a black hole, we might open up a new dimension. Maybe it will herald the arrival of the Lich King? Or maybe some alien life forms into Earth’s soil. These are all just speculations as the scientists behind the project are confident nothing bad will happen. Oh but when have you heard a project’s proponents dissing their own project huh?
The machine will open in August and black holes may soon appear in a theater near you.
Good luck humanity! Something other than global warming will decimate us after all. Bush was right, or at least someone who looks (and talks) like Bush. Haha.
